What You’ll Need

  • Your shower filter (inline hose filter or shower head filter)
  • Adjustable wrench (for shower head filters only — inline filters are usually hand-tight)
  • Teflon tape (included with most filters)
  • Clean cloth

For an Inline Hose Filter

  1. Turn off the shower. You don’t need to turn off the mains water — just make sure the shower isn’t running.
  2. Disconnect the shower hose from the wall outlet (hand-tight connection — turn anticlockwise).
  3. Connect the inline filter between the wall outlet and the hose. Thread the filter onto the wall outlet first, then reattach the hose to the filter outlet. Hand-tight is usually sufficient — don’t overtighten.
  4. Turn on the shower and check for leaks. If there’s a small drip at a connection, wrap the threads with Teflon tape and retighten.
  5. Flush for 30 seconds before use to clear any residual media from the new cartridge.

For a Shower Head Filter

  1. Remove the existing shower head by turning it anticlockwise. Use a cloth to protect the finish if using a wrench.
  2. Clean the shower arm threads with a cloth to remove old Teflon tape and mineral deposits.
  3. Wrap the shower arm threads with Teflon tape (clockwise, 2–3 wraps).
  4. Thread the shower filter onto the shower arm clockwise by hand, then snug with a wrench. Don’t overtighten.
  5. Turn on and check for leaks. Flush for 30 seconds before use.

Ongoing Maintenance

Replace the filter cartridge every 6–12 months. Browse our replacement shower filter cartridges. See also: Shower Filter Maintenance Tips.
