Magnesium Prill Beads are a mineral water accessory used alongside your Awesome Water gravity purifier or bottle-fed water cooler. Placed in the water reservoir, the beads may help raise the pH of filtered water and contribute to a softer, smoother taste.

Each pack contains 2 × 85g mesh bags of magnesium oxide prill beads. The beads do not dissolve, making them a reusable accessory that can last for years with basic monthly maintenance.

How to Use

1. Rinse first: Before first use, rinse the bags under cool clean water for 30–60 seconds to remove any fine dust.
2. Soak: Soak the bags in a bowl of water for 24 hours to prepare for optimal performance.
3. Place in reservoir: Put the bags into your water reservoir or the lower chamber of your purifier. Ensure the bags are fully submerged.
4. Wait before drinking: Allow water to sit in contact with the beads for a minimum of 8 hours (24 hours recommended for best results) before consuming.
5. Monthly maintenance: Rinse the bags in clean water monthly. Inspect the mesh bags for wear and replace if needed — contact us for replacement bags.
6. End of life: When beads no longer raise pH noticeably, they can be added to garden soil — they are biodegradable and safe for plants.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do the beads need to be replaced?

The beads do not dissolve and can last for years. However, their ability to raise pH may gradually reduce over time, particularly with acidic source water. Replace when you notice a significant drop in effectiveness (i.e. pH no longer rises noticeably after overnight contact).

Are these a replacement for my filter cartridge?

No. Prill Beads are a mineral accessory designed to raise pH after filtration. They must be used alongside a functioning 8-stage filter cartridge, not instead of one. Never use Prill Beads with unfiltered tap water.

Can I use them in any water cooler?

They work best with Awesome Water benchtop purifiers and gravity-fed bottle-fed coolers where the beads can remain submerged. They are not suitable for mains-connected (plumbed-in) coolers. If unsure, contact our team before ordering.

Are Prill Beads the same as Maifan Stone?

No — they are different accessories. Maifan Stone is a porous mineral rock used to add different trace minerals. Prill Beads (magnesium oxide) are specifically used for pH adjustment.
