Clearer, Better-Looking Water with a Genuine 0.5 Micron Ceramic Pre-Filter

If your gravity system is slowing down or you’re seeing grit and fine particles in the top bowl, this ceramic dome water filter is the simple first-stage replacement designed to help trap fine sediment before it reaches your main cartridge.

Made for Awesome Water coolers and benchtop/gravity systems that use the standard ceramic dome, it’s a straightforward swap that can help you keep water flowing and looking clearer — with no electricity and no plumbing.

Ceramic Filtration Process

Key Benefits

  • Helps reduce fine sediment: Designed to physically trap rust, grit, and suspended particles for clearer-looking water.
  • Protects your main cartridge: Works as a pre-filter stage to reduce sediment load before water reaches your main filtration stages.
  • Gravity powered: No power points, pumps, or installation calls — ideal for kitchens, offices, rentals, caravans, and off-grid use.
  • Practical for many Australian water sources: Useful on treated mains water, and can help “polish” tank/bore water as part of a full multi-stage treatment approach.

How It Works

Click to learn about Gravity Filtration

The ceramic dome sits in the upper chamber of your gravity system. As you pour water into the top bowl, gravity draws it slowly through microscopic pores in the ceramic. Particles larger than the pore size (0.5 micron) are held back, helping reduce visible sediment before the water moves into the lower chamber and/or through your main cartridge.

Note for private supplies: If you use tank, rainwater, or bore water, a ceramic dome can help with sediment and clarity, but it shouldn’t be treated as a complete solution for untreated water. Follow your state health department advice and the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines for testing and disinfection.

What You Get

  • 1 × Ceramic dome filter (0.5 micron nominal)
  • 1 × Rubber sealing ring (to help prevent leaks)

Installation & Maintenance

Preparation Before Use:

Steps on how to clean and prepare a ceramic dome filter

Preparation Steps

  1. Soak & Rinse: Soak the dome in clean water, then rinse thoroughly (inside and out) to remove any ceramic dust.
  2. Fitment: Seat the rubber ring at the base, place the dome into the upper tank opening, and secure using your system’s fastening hardware (most units reuse the existing nut/washer).

Cleaning Guide:

Guide on how to gently scrub a ceramic filter under running water

Gentle Cleaning Technique

  1. Rinse: Rinse under cool running water.
  2. Wipe: Gently wipe with a soft sponge or non-abrasive pad.
  3. Avoid: Do NOT use detergents or abrasive scourers, as they can damage the ceramic surface.

Expected Flow: Ceramic filtration is naturally slow. If flow becomes much slower than normal, it usually needs cleaning or replacement.

Replacement Timing: Replace every 6–12 months, depending on water quality and usage.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I replace the ceramic dome?

Many customers replace every 6–12 months. If flow drops significantly, cleaning doesn’t restore it, or the dome stays heavily discoloured, it’s usually time to replace.

Why is the flow so slow?

Slow filtration is normal for ceramic because the pores are fine and it’s gravity-fed. That slower pace is helpful for sediment capture.

Does this remove fluoride?

No, this standard ceramic dome is primarily a sediment pre-filter. For fluoride reduction, view the Awesome 97% Fluoride Removal Ceramic Dome.

Will it fit my system?

It’s designed for Awesome Water coolers and benchtop/gravity systems using the standard ceramic dome. For other brands, measure your existing dome and check thread/fit before ordering.

Ceramic Dome Filter Helpful Tips

The Awesome Water Ceramic Dome Filter consists of a hollow-core ceramic material that acts as a highly effective physical barrier against impurities.

It is the first line of defence in water purification, ensuring that harmful contaminants are removed before water reaches the next stage of filtration.

Water flows through millions of microscopic pores in the ceramic dome, capturing and removing harmful particles. The filter is designed with an internal convoluted maze of sharp angles that further trap any impurities that might bypass the outer surface.

💧 Captures Particles as Small as 0.5 Microns – Ensuring ultra-fine particulate filtration.
💧 Removes Bacteria, Parasites & Sediment – Effectively filtering out harmful microorganisms and dirt.
💧 Works in Harmony with Other Awesome Water Filters – Making it an essential component of your water purification system.

1️⃣ Soak the ceramic dome in clean water for at least 10 minutes.
2️⃣ Rinse thoroughly under running water, especially inside the filter.
3️⃣ Attach the rubber ring and assemble it with the upper tank.
4️⃣ Secure with the nut, reassemble the upper tank, and enjoy pure, filtered alkaline water!

✔ High-Efficiency Water Purification – Removes bacteria, sediment, and contaminants with high precision.
✔ Eco-Friendly & Chemical-Free – Uses natural ceramic filtration without harsh chemicals.
✔ Ideal for Rainwater, Tank Water & Bore Water Users – Ensuring safe and clean drinking water for households using non-municipal sources.
✔ Trusted First-Stage Filtration – Lays the foundation for a multi-layer purification system.

🔹 Please Note: The Ceramic Dome Water Filter has a slower filtration process than our BPA-Free Plastic Dome because it removes more impurities.

The full filtration cycle can take up to 24 hours to pass from the top bowl to the bottom bowl. If you need faster filtration, consider using our BPA-Free Plastic Dome with Felt Pads, which filters in approximately one hour.

🧼 Gently clean using a soft sponge or non-abrasive pad – avoid detergents to prolong its lifespan.

🔄 Recommended replacement: Every 6 months for optimal filtration performance.
