How It Works

The Awesome Ceramic Dome Water Filter sits in the upper tank of your benchtop or gravity purifier. As you pour tap, tank or bore water into the top bowl, gravity pulls it slowly through millions of microscopic pores in the ceramic shell.

Particles larger than approximately 0.5 microns are physically blocked, creating a fine mechanical barrier against sediment and other suspended solids. Inside the dome, the ceramic matrix forms a tortuous path – a maze of sharp angles that further traps particles that may have made it through the outer surface.

From there, the filtered water passes into the lower chamber (or into your Awesome 8 Stage Water Filter cartridge) for additional treatment, such as activated carbon, ion exchange and mineral stages, depending on your setup. This multi-stage approach is what delivers the best results for taste, odour and overall water quality, and is consistent with the multi-barrier approach recommended in the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.

Important note: ceramic and polypropylene filters are excellent for sediment removal, but by themselves they should not be relied on to disinfect unsafe water. Installing your new ceramic dome filter is simple:

1. Preparation before first use
   • Soak the dome in clean water for at least 10 minutes.
   • Rinse thoroughly under running water, including inside the dome, to remove any manufacturing dust.

2. Fitting the dome
   • Place the rubber ring around the base of the dome.
   • Insert the dome into the hole in the upper tank.
   • Secure it from underneath with the supplied nut (hand tight is enough – don’t overtighten).

3. Flushing
   • Fill the top bowl and allow the first full tank of water to run through and discard it.
   • From the second full tank onward, your water is ready to drink.

Regular cleaning (especially important in Australian tank / bore setups):
