1. Turn off the distiller and remove the lid of the boiling chamber.
2. Fill your sink with warm water and add 1/4 cup of white vinegar (or lemon juice, or our Distiller Cleaner Powder).
3. Soak the lid in the solution for a few hours. If the lid is not removable, scrub with a cloth soaked in the solution.
4. Pour a 50/50 vinegar and water solution into the boiling chamber, ensuring it covers all visible scale. Allow to sit overnight (approx. 12 hours).
5. Empty and rinse the distiller thoroughly with clean water several times.
6. Allow to air dry completely before plugging back in.

What is a water distiller?
A water distiller heats water into steam, separating it from impurities that cannot evaporate. The steam is then condensed back into clean liquid water, leaving contaminants behind in the boiling chamber.

How long does it take to distill water?
Approximately 5.5 hours to produce a full 4-litre batch.

Does it remove every contaminant?
The steam distillation process combined with the carbon post-filter is effective at reducing the vast majority of common tap water impurities including heavy metals, dissolved solids, and chlorine. The carbon filter also helps reduce volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can affect taste.

Do I need the carbon filter?
The unit will work without it, but the carbon post-filter helps reduce VOCs that can cause an off-taste in distilled water. We recommend always using it.

Why is distilled water different from alkaline water?
Distilled water has had virtually all dissolved minerals removed. Alkaline water retains minerals and has a higher pH. Both have different use cases — distilled water is ideal for applications requiring high purity (e.g. medical, dental, laboratory, baby formula).

What's the warranty?
AWF water distillers come with a 2-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship from the date of purchase.
