How it works

The ceramic dome sits in the upper chamber of your gravity system. As you pour water into the top bowl, gravity draws it slowly through microscopic pores in the ceramic. Particles larger than the pore size are held back, helping reduce visible sediment before the water moves into the lower chamber and/or through your main cartridge.

Note for private supplies: If you use tank, rainwater or bore water, a ceramic dome can help with sediment and clarity, but it shouldn’t be treated as a complete solution for untreated water. Follow your state health department advice and the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines for testing and, where required, disinfection.

Installation & maintenance

Before first use: Soak the dome in clean water, then rinse thoroughly (inside and out) to remove any ceramic dust.

Fitment: Seat the rubber ring at the base, place the dome into the upper tank opening and secure using your system’s fastening hardware (most units reuse the existing nut/washer).

Cleaning: Rinse under cool running water and gently wipe with a soft sponge or non-abrasive pad. Avoid detergents and abrasive scourers, which can damage or clog the ceramic surface.

Expected flow: Ceramic filtration is naturally slow and steady. If flow becomes much slower than normal, it usually needs cleaning or replacement.

Replacement timing: Many households replace the dome every 6–12 months, depending on water quality and usage (sooner in higher-sediment situations).

• How often should I replace the ceramic dome?
  Many customers replace every 6–12 months, depending on usage and water quality. If flow drops significantly, cleaning doesn’t restore it, or the dome stays heavily discoloured, it’s usually time to replace.
• Why is the flow so slow?
  Slow filtration is normal for ceramic because the pores are fine and it’s gravity-fed. That slower pace can be helpful for sediment capture, but it does mean you may want to keep the lower tank topped up for convenience.
• My flow stopped — what should I check first?
  First, rinse the dome thoroughly and gently wipe the surface with a soft, non-abrasive pad. Also check the seating of the rubber ring and that the dome is installed straight and snug. If you’re on tank/bore water with higher sediment, you may need more frequent cleaning or earlier replacement.
• Can I use this with tank or bore water?
  It can help reduce sediment and improve clarity as part of a multi-stage setup. For untreated private supplies, always follow local health guidance for testing and, where needed, disinfection.
• Does this ceramic dome remove fluoride?
  This standard ceramic dome is primarily a sediment-focused pre-filter. If fluoride reduction is your main goal, consider a dedicated fluoride reduction stage designed for that purpose.
• How do I clean it without damaging it?
