Reverse Osmosis Water Filter | Best Reverse Osmosis System for Clean Water

Reverse Osmosis Systems & RO Water Filters — Awesome Water Filters Australia

Reverse osmosis (RO) is the most advanced method of drinking water purification available for Australian households. Our range of reverse osmosis systems and RO water filters use a semi-permeable membrane with a pore size of just 0.0005 microns — small enough to block dissolved solids, heavy metals, fluoride, chlorine, bacteria, viruses and virtually all other contaminants. Want to understand exactly how RO works before you buy? Read our complete reverse osmosis guide.

What Is Reverse Osmosis & How Does It Work?

Reverse osmosis forces pressurised tap water through a multi-stage filtration process culminating in an ultrafine TFC (Thin Film Composite) RO membrane. Contaminants that can't pass through the membrane are flushed to drain, while purified water is stored in a pressure tank and dispensed on demand through a dedicated chrome tap. Most of our RO systems are 4–5 stage, with pre-filters protecting the membrane and post-filters polishing the final water quality.

Why Choose an Awesome Water Filters RO System?

  • Up to 99% contaminant removal — fluoride, lead, arsenic, nitrates, chlorine, bacteria, viruses and more
  • Multi-stage purification — sediment pre-filter, carbon block, RO membrane and carbon post-filter as standard
  • Alkaline options available — selected models include a remineralisation stage that raises pH to 8–10 and adds beneficial minerals
  • Quick-change cartridge systems — hygienic, tool-free cartridge replacement with no mess
  • 10L storage tank included — clean water on demand even during low-pressure periods
  • Replaces bottled water — better for your wallet and the environment
  • 4.9★ rated by over 270 verified Australian customers

Benchtop vs Undersink RO Systems

Our RO systems come in two main formats. Undersink RO systems are installed out of sight beneath your kitchen bench and deliver filtered water through a dedicated tap — the most popular choice for families wanting a permanent, high-output solution. Benchtop RO units are portable, require no plumbing, and are ideal for renters or smaller households. Both deliver the same exceptional water purity.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does a reverse osmosis system remove? Up to 99% of dissolved contaminants including fluoride, lead, arsenic, nitrates, chlorine, chloramines, bacteria, viruses, heavy metals and pharmaceutical residues.
  • Is reverse osmosis water safe to drink? Yes. RO water is some of the purest drinking water available. Some people choose to remineralise RO water by adding an alkaline or mineral stage — several of our systems include this as a final stage.
  • How often do I need to replace RO filters? Pre and post carbon filters every 6–12 months. The RO membrane typically lasts 2–3 years. Browse our RO replacement cartridges or see our Replacement Filter Cartridges Guide.
  • Do I need a plumber to install a reverse osmosis system? Most undersink RO systems connect to your existing cold water line and include all fittings. We recommend a licensed plumber for a clean, compliant installation. See our professional installation via Airtasker.
  • Does reverse osmosis remove fluoride? Yes — typically 95–99% removal rates, making RO the most reliable method for fluoride removal in Australian homes.
