Setting up a benchtop water purifier is straightforward — no plumbing, no tools. Here’s how to do it correctly so your first glass of filtered water is actually filtered.

What You’ll Need

  • Your benchtop water purifier (upper and lower chambers)
  • The filter cartridge (included with new systems)
  • Clean tap water for the initial flush

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Wash both chambers with warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly before first use.
  2. Install the cartridge in the upper chamber — thread it onto the fitting and hand-tighten. Do not overtighten.
  3. Fill the upper chamber with tap water.
  4. Discard the first two full chambers of filtered water — this flushes carbon fines and any residual media from the new cartridge. This step is important: don’t skip it.
  5. Your system is ready to use. Refill the upper chamber as needed.

Ongoing Use

Refill the upper chamber daily or as needed. Clean the lower chamber every 3–6 months with a mild food-safe sanitiser. Replace the cartridge every 6–12 months. Browse our replacement cartridge range.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my filtered water look cloudy at first?

Cloudiness in the first few litres is normal — it’s carbon fines from the new cartridge. Discard the first two full chambers and the cloudiness will clear. Call us on 1800 789 781 if cloudiness persists.

How long does it take to filter a full chamber?

Typically 2–4 hours for a full upper chamber, depending on the cartridge type and water pressure. Gravity filtration is slower than mains-pressure filtration — this is normal and expected.
